
KC Ang joins Tata Electronics to lead India’s chip revolution with ₹91,000 crore semiconductor push
Tata Electronics Pvt. Ltd. (TEPL) announced the appointment of KC Ang as President and Head of its Foundry business, Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd. (TSMPL), on Wednesday. Ang will report directly to Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD of Tata Electronics.
“In this role, KC will spearhead Tata Electronics' advanced AI-enabled foundry operations and play a key role in driving innovation and excellence while forming strategic partnerships to position Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing as a global leader in chip manufacturing,” the company stated.
“We are delighted to have an industry veteran like KC Ang join us and be part of the team driving our semiconductor journey. His extensive industry knowledge and diverse expertise will be invaluable as we make steady progress towards commencing operations at our Dholera Fab. With his vast experience, KC will lead manufacturing operations and work closely with our customers and ecosystem partners,” said Dr. Randhir Thakur.
Born in Malaysia, Ang holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from National Taiwan University and a master's degree in engineering from the University of Texas. He has over 30 years of experience in the foundry industry, specialising in fab start-ups, management, operations, and technology transfer. He has worked extensively across Malaysia, Germany, the U.S., and China, most recently serving as President – Asia and Chairman – China at GlobalFoundries, where he spent 15 years.

Founded in 2020 as a Tata Group greenfield venture, Tata Electronics is building capabilities in Electronics Manufacturing Services, Semiconductor Assembly & Test, Foundry, and Design. With over 65,000 employees, it operates in Gujarat, Assam, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. In 2024, it partnered with PSMC to advance India's semiconductor manufacturing.
Tata Electronics is investing ₹91,000 crore in India’s first high-tech chip plant in Dholera, Gujarat, which will produce 50,000 wafers monthly for EVs, telecom, and defence, supported by a 50% government subsidy. It is also setting up a ₹27,000 crore testing and packaging facility in Assam to produce 48 million chips daily. In March, it signed an agreement with Himax and PSMC for next-generation semiconductor design and manufacturing.
